She was the same.
On the outside looking in,
Finding a place in the shadows to hide.
To afraid to move on.
Scared to see what she could be if she just let him in.
She hides behind all her make up,
And all her fancy clothes just to be pretty.
Because her uncle used to come in her room at night and rape her.
And tell her she was worthless.

He was the same.
Bringing in a life full of lies and a heart full of pain.

His eyes told the story.
Closed off to the daylight as it seeped through the blinds.
He saw the blood and cigarettes stains on the floor and the wall.
Two afraid to speak up as his mother was beaten in the other room.
As his step father walked through the door.
He could smell the alcohol from his room.
He drowned out the noise of screams.
And knew tonight he would cry himself to sleep.

Wishing that God would save their broken family.
She felt alone and worthless,

But she looked to the sky, (And the rain said.)

A ray of light hit her face that made her glow so bright,
Simply questioning the tears that still fell.

Hiding the pain of yesterdays loss,
